Overview

The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped "front window" of your eye. It plays a vital role in focusing the light that comes in, allowing you to see clearly. When the cornea becomes swollen, scarred, or loses its smooth shape, your vision can become distorted or highly sensitive to light. Because the cornea is rich in nerve endings, conditions affecting it can also cause persistent discomfort or a gritty sensation. Utilising state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging, we can detect microscopic changes in your eye and offer precise treatments.

Conditions includes:

  • Fuchs' Endothelial Dystrophy: A slow-progressing condition where the cells pumping fluid out of the cornea begin to fail, leading to swelling and cloudy morning vision. If you have this condition combined with a cataract, it is advisable to see a corneal specialist prior to cataract surgery to discuss your treatment plan and trajectory.
  • Keratoconus: A condition where the normally round cornea slowly thins and bulges into a cone shape, causing blurred and distorted vision.
  • Corneal Scarring: Damage caused by previous contact lens infections, cold sores in the eye, or physical injuries.
